FRIENDOR LOVE FRI-YAY | Lovecraft Events | Charleston South Carolina Wedding
For this second installment of “Friendor Love Fri-YAY” I’d like to introduce you to my friend and wedding colleague, Camila, of Lovecraft Events!
Camila and I met through a mutual friend and recently had the opportunity to work together to serve our sweet friends during their Creek Club at I’On wedding.
Camila did a superb job putting everything together for Bonnie + JP’s picturesque Charleston wedding. She is so attentive to details and it’s clear that she cares deeply for her couples. I can’t wait to work with her again soon!
>> What's your story?
I’m a California girl born and raised (on the playground is where I spent most of my days) ;)
Right out of college I had the opportunity to work in one of the largest wineries in the world, and learned to love hospitality and unique, curated celebrations. A few years ago, I relocated to Charleston, SC and was pleased to find a booming wedding industry. It just felt like the right place and time to plant my business and watch it grow - and so Lovecraft Events was born. Part Love, Part Sorcery (it takes a little magic to make everything come together on a wedding day!)
People say that when you love what you do, you never work a day in your life. That isn’t necessarily true - when you own a business, you work EVERY day of your life. But doing this, telling love stories, it still sets me on fire. So it’s worth it.
I was fortunate enough to find the love of my life here, too. (Hey Adam! Love you babe!) We have three fur babies together and met because he was in a firefighter calendar that supports an animal rescue charity. Just lucky, I guess.
>> Describe your ideal client in three words.
Eclectic. Authentic. Passionate.
>> The greatest part about working in the love party industry?
The greatest part about working in this industry is having the privilege of taking a couple’s vision and helping translate that into a real life celebration of their love story. There is no bigger honor than being entrusted with that duty. Oh, and copious amounts of free cake :P
>> What's the best relationship advice you've ever received?
I once had someone tell me this quote when describing an ideal relationship: “If you love a flower, don’t pick it up. Because if you pick it up it dies and ceases to be what you love. So if you love a flower, let it be.” - Oslo
This to me equates to seeing and honoring your partners uniqueness, and helping them to be the best version of themselves. You water the flower where it grows.
>> If you could give a couple who's in the beginning stages of planning their wedding one piece of advice what would it be?
If I could give a couple one piece of advice as they begin to plan their big day, it would be to not feel tied down by all of the traditions that often come with a wedding - I encourage my couples to pick and choose what traditions feel authentic to their love story, and to leave the rest. No one will miss them, I promise!
>>That one song that always gets ya on the dance floor?
Anything with a Latin fusion vibe (think “Despacito,” “Bailando,” “Suavamente” anyone?) - there is a 99.9% chance that if I am at your wedding, and one of these songs comes on, I will be involuntarily dancing in the corner. Unless I’m in the back, eating cake ;)
